Week in Review - Week 24 (March 2-6) - GERMS!!

Hi Everyone,

Math

This week, we made Math Mala's with Ms. Hinder. We learned that Malas are beads used by many cultures to help with meditation and counting. We used this ideas to brainstorm how we connect to different colors. We picked 10 colors that connect with us and made 10 groups of 10 with our beads. This will help with our solving of math (addition and subtraction) problems as well as to help us our mindfulness and meditation.

Social

This week, we explored the Northern Lights. We noticed the beautiful colors of the sky in the Arctic. We had many questions about the Northern Lights:

  • I wonder if the Northern Lights come out once a year? - Jonathon
  • I wonder if the Northern Lights are connected to the Inukshuk? - Alisha
  • I wonder how the Northern Lights are made? - Becky and Sukhnaaz
  • I wonder if the Northern Lights represent something to the Inuit people - Aris
Next week we will explore some of these questions!

Science

This week we continued to hone our understanding of absorption. We used a model called an SEEI (State, Elaborate, Example, Illustrate) to demonstrate our understanding.

Health

This week we talked about how to stay healthy. We focused on the importance of hand washing and what happens if we don't wash our hands. We used sparkles that represented germs and went around handshaking/high five-ing our classmates and saw how with every high five germs spread from one person to another. This is why it is so important for us to wash our hands before meals, after the bathroom and after playing outside.

Yoga

This week, we had a special guest from Yoga Pl3y come teach us about Yoga and mindfulness this week in gym. The students had a lot of fun learning new poses and balances!

Student-Led Conferences

On March 19th, we will be having student-led conferences at the school. This will be an opportunity for your child to show you around the classroom and share about all of the wonderful things that we have been learning about. Information regarding booking times should have been sent to you via e-mail.

Thats all for know. As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me at mdnishimura@cbe.ab.ca

Best Regards,

Mr. N
