Hi Everyone,
Word Work
In word work this week, we worked on the "ch" sound. We have learned that "ch" sound like in the words chapter, switch, and kitchen. However, we also learned that the "ch" grapheme can make the "k" sound like in the words echo, schedule, school and chaos.
Science
In science this week, we continued with our hot and cold mind map. We created a definition of what temperature is and identified things that we know to be hot and cold. Following this, we started to explore with use of thermometers. We are trying to examine what a normal room temperature is, and what our normal body temperature is. We made predictions and started to examine. We will continue next week!
Math
In math this week, we continued with our math centres. We have been getting quicker at subitizing numbers (recognizing the number without counting) during our ten frame addition war centre. We know that the value of a full ten frame is 10, therefore we can count on from ten to quickly add our second ten frame.
In addition, our addition has been getting better! Our focus has been on two digit by two digit addition without regrouping. Some of us have mastered this skill and have started addition with regrouping! If you are interested in practicing at home, here is a website with many different math games https://www.mathplayground.com/index_addition_subtraction.html.
Social
Our buffalo inquiry has continued! This week, with the guidance of Ms. Hinder, we drew our own buffalos. These are the first pieces of our new documentation panels! Following this, we talked about the circle and the power and significance it has to First Nations cultures. The circle represents equality, unity and balance. This ties in perfectly with the interrelationship the buffalo and the prairies have. We beaded a circle to connect two pieces of our documentation panels. Our panels will soon be on display in our classroom. Stay tuned!
Thats all for now. As always if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at mdnishimura@cbe.ab.ca
Parent Teacher Interviews will be happening on Thursday December 5th and Friday December 6th. Information for signing up for times will be provided soon!
Have a great weekend,
Mr. N
