Week in Review (Week 4- September 23-27)

Hi Family and Friends, This week was a fun filled week with lots of learning! This week we continued our review of our letter sounds in word work. This week we went over the "H, D, K, C, G, F, B and U" sounds. Each day we will spell common words using these letters and sounds. We will discuss other sounds we hear as well as the use of double graphemes in words. Following this, the students will be tasked to write sentences using these words. This helps to enforce the spelling as well as using the word in the correct context. Some of the words we practiced this week were u n d er, c lean, b ook, f irst and sin g to name a few. Next week we will finish our single letter sounds and get into reviewing double grapheme sounds. We also started "WOW" writing this week. Week in Review Week 10 (November 4-8) "We Remember"

Hi Everyone, Remembrance Day This was a sombre week as one of the main focus' was learning about remembrance day. We started the week seeing what we knew about Remembrance day, and I was surprised to see that we knew quite a bit. We had a strong understanding that it was about soldiers that passed away in the war. This week we examined the significance of the poppy, and why it is used to represent Remembrance day. We learned that the poppy grew on the battlefields of France during the war which brought hope to the people. We also examined the poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McRae. We learned that the poem was about remembering, hope and thankfulness. We must always remember the soldiers who fought for us and the freedoms and opportunities that we have because of it. Week in Review - Week 23 (February 24-28) - Liquids

Hi Everyone, Science This week, our main focus was exploring cold temperatures and liquids. On Monday we learned about what liquids are. We found out that liquids are things that move around and flow. We also identified many things that are liquids such as water, milk and juice. Following this, we conducted an experiment to see what would happen if we put liquids in the freezer. We made our own hypothesis' and put apple juice in ice cube trays and left it in the freezer for the whole school day. At the end of the day we took it out and discovered that the juice had frozen into a solid. We got to see two different states of matter , and at the end of the experiment enjoy a refreshing popsicle! On Friday, we conducted another experiment to examine what common materials are the most absorbent . We learned that the word absorbent means for something to be sucked up.
