Week in Review - Week 25 (March 9-13) - Stay Healthy!!

Hi Families, Health/Science This week was a busy week filled with lots of discussion around our health, and how to stay healthy. We started an experiment about the power of germs and what happens when you leave your germs unattended. We got bread and with partners wiped our hands on the bread and sealed them in Ziplock bags. Over the course of the week we have been observing our pieces of bread to see what changed. We do not see any noticeable germs yet, but stay tuned next week for the conclusion of the experiment. Amidst the COVID-19 information, we have been reminding students to make sure to wash their hands, cough into their elbows and sleeves and refrain from handshakes and high fives. If students are sick, please keep them at home as we want to ensure that everyone stays healthy! Math We continued our practice using our Mindful Math Mala's to help with our reasoning while subtracting. Here is a great example of a students mathematical reasoning.

Week in Review (Week 4- September 23-27)

Hi Family and Friends, This week was a fun filled week with lots of learning! This week we continued our review of our letter sounds in word work. This week we went over the "H, D, K, C, G, F, B and U" sounds. Each day we will spell common words using these letters and sounds. We will discuss other sounds we hear as well as the use of double graphemes in words. Following this, the students will be tasked to write sentences using these words. This helps to enforce the spelling as well as using the word in the correct context. Some of the words we practiced this week were u n d er, c lean, b ook, f irst and sin g to name a few. Next week we will finish our single letter sounds and get into reviewing double grapheme sounds. We also started "WOW" writing this week. Week in Review Week 9 (October 28-31) "Toys!"

Hi Everyone, Science A big focus of this week in Science was our building of our toys that utilize magnets. This is our conclusion project to our magnet unit. In groups of three, students have been tasked to design and create toys where magnets are a prominent aspect. There have been many great ideas such as puzzles, fishing games and even robots. All groups had to start with a blueprint of what they wanted to build. They needed to ensure that the blueprint showed a picture of their toy as well as have detailed labels outlining what materials they would need. Following this, they began to build their designs. We are in the finishing stages of construction and the toys are looking amazing! Next week we will have the opportunity to present our toys to the class as well as write and play with them!
